Having grown up in poverty, surrounded by poverty, I'd like to explain what is probably going on with the first concern.
Being able to consider FIRE makes the vast majority of people on this sub in the top ~10% of earners. The median income in the United States is 36,000 dollars (ETA: 36k not 31k when adjusted for todays dollars src:https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/MEPAINUSA672N. I used 2019 numbers because I don't trust any changes covid has had on the market to be sustained or have changed anything for most people in poverty) . In most metros of any size, that is barely enough to make ends meet. Most people on this sub consider 1m, 4% SWR lean fire. In lean, barely sustainable retirement, you will make more than over half of the population of the US.
Okay, now think about generational poverty with me. What does that look like for most people? Good jobs that were lost when an industry collapsed. Low employability due to race or language skills. With the really unlucky, chronic lack of work due to health issues or addiction problems, along with the contingent burdens of those within a family. For some people, chronic unemployment also meant people losing hope, and to all appearances sitting on their ass and collecting a gov't check, jettisoning any hope for a more stable future, in part because one wasn't available. Keep in mind that this also means most people have not seen a comfortable retirement, don't know how to plan for the long term with the stock market, and if they're planning for retirement they're probably doing employer contributions and not thinking about it too much past that.
Now imagine that the only times you've seen someone not work are because there was a major economic collapse in your area, they were being discriminated against, they were chronically ill, or they're an addict. Sometimes, you've seen chronic unemployment devolve into economic dependence on welfare programs, addiction issues, and a lost sense of purpose and dignity. You are one of the 50%+ of Americans who is either currently living in full view of these issues, or the even greater percentage that has at some point.

Or, more generously and probably accurately, you are both looking for people who are as capable of achieving the same lifestyle you are accustomed to as you are. There's nothing morally wrong with that, but it's hypocritical to judge others for doing the same.
In the second case, just use your damn instincts. Forget about weeding out the gold diggers by not telling them you were able to retire early because you have Xmil in assets. You will be able to tell by their behavior. If you are already worried about this, you will catch the warning signs within a few dates, you're not going to get 'caught' or 'tricked'. Back in 2020, Bolivia's Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) privately shared a number of files with non-public information about the failed 2019 general election. One of these files was named 'OEA_TREP_LogCompleto_19G_2019.11.03.06.53.xlsx'. This spreadsheet contains a record of events in the preliminary vote count (TREP) and, based on its filename, appears to have been a part of the OAS's election audit. The spreadsheet corresponds to a table in the election software's database named ActaLog. I don't claim access to non-public information except the data here. What I know is based on close examination of that data, public reports (especially the one from NEOTEC, a contractor who developed and administered the TREP), and two pre-election demonstrations of the TREP (1, 2). If you don't have the data, you can find it here. However, that file isn't the original one from the TSE. Back in mid-2020, I obtained the original and wanted to publish it, but it had people's names and other potentially sensitive information and I didn't want to cause anyone any trouble, so I substituted the sensitive values for aliases. Also, I added a short descriptive guide, sorted the rows chronologically, and in general made it somewhat friendlier to use. But otherwise the data is the same. The TREP was a non-binding system for preliminary electoral results in which tally sheet data was remotely transmitted from polling places to a cloud-based computer system, after which the data entered a quality control process and, in most cases, was published on Election Night. It was a so-called 'rapid count' which had no legal force and whose value was strictly informative, but it played a critical role in setting public expectations about the later official result, a process which took more time because it was manual rather than electronic and thus required the physical transportation of tally sheets. The core users who carried out the TREP can be split into three groups: RegistroUser / TransmisionUser: Over 7000 users present at polling places who waited for tally sheets to be filled out, then photographed and transcribed them using a specialized Android app developed by NEOTEC, then sent this data to the TREP servers via the internet. In effectively all cases, the user who recorded the data (RegistroUser) is also the one who sent it (TransmisionUser). VerificadorUser: About 350 users at the SERECI offices in La Paz who transcribed the tally sheet images sent by the transmission user. If their transcription matched the transmission user's transcription (which they couldn't see), then the acta column was verified and included in the vote count. If not, the software indicated which vote totals didn't match and gave them another chance. If they failed again, then the acta column entered a review process. AprobadorUser: A small number of users at the SERECI offices in La Paz who operated a review process that handled cases where the two transcriptions failed to match. When they resolved one of these cases, the acta column was approved (=verified) and included in the vote count. These users needed to be OEP functionaries since they had the authority to unilaterally determine published vote totals on the acta columns they reviewed, which makes them different from the users above, all of whom were short-term hires. (Note: NEOTEC says there were 20 approval users, but I only see seven unique users in the data and a maximum of five at one time.) The key elements of the process can be illustrated in a flowchart (link): Green text: EstadoActa value. Blue text: Event-specific timestamp. (Note: The event 'Data Recorded on Device' has no EstadoActa value. It occurs on the mobile device, not on the server, so it doesn't generate an update to the server's database.) To map the ActaLog to the flowchart, the most important field is EstadoActa, which is the acta column's state as a result of the latest database update. There are three possible values of EstadoActa: 'Registrada' (Event: Transmission), 'Esperando aprobación' (Event: Failed Verification), and 'Verificada' (Event: VerificationorApproval). In the flowchart, each event's EstadoActa value is written in green text. These EstadoActa values map to flowchart events well enough that reading an acta column's ActaLog updates is akin to watching that acta column move through the TREP flowchart: Transmission → Verification. PriRegistroDate Mobile Device (Unreliable) Data Recorded on Device Time of the acta column's first Data Recorded on Device event. Once set, this value will not change. UltRegistroDate Mobile Device (Unreliable) Data Recorded on Device Time of the acta column's latest Data Recorded on Device event. PriTransmisionDate Server Transmission Time of the acta column's first Transmission event. Once set, this value will not change. UltTransmisionDate Server Transmission Time of the acta column's latest Transmission event. VerificadorDate Server Verification, Failed Verification Time of the acta column's Verification or Failed Verification event. In other words, this is the time of the VerificadorUser's attempt to validate the acta column and is outcome-independent. Failed verifications set this value just as successful ones do. AprobadorDate Server Approval Time of the acta column's Approval event. (Note: RegistroDate timestamps are unreliable. If you examine them, you'll find cases of data supposedly recorded years before the election and others of data recorded a month after the election. There are many others with more subtle problems. The reason for this is that RegistroDate is a timestamp taken from the mobile device, not the server, and in some cases the device had the incorrect time. The mobile devices that were used to record and transmit data to the TREP belonged to the transmission users themselves, whose employment was conditioned on being able to provide their own Android 4.0+ device. Some of these bad device times were exposed in the EXIF metadata of certain TREP images, but for the most part the device times were unavailable to the public. They're available here, though, in the form of (unreliable) RegistroDate timestamps.) To get the correct timestamps for any event in the flowchart, first filter for the event's EstadoActa value in green, then take the value of the Event-Specific Timestamp whose name is in blue. Back in 2020, Bolivia's Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) privately shared a number of files from the failed election in 2019, one of which was named 'OEA_TREP_LogCompleto_19G_2019.11.03.06.53.xlsx'. This file contains a record of events in the preliminary vote count (TREP) and, based on its filename, appears to have been a part of the OAS's election audit. From what I can tell, the file corresponds to a table in the election software's database named ActaLog. That database's manual (p164, BISITE audit) provides the following description of the ActaLog table:

La tabla ActaLog contiene una copia del registro Acta cada vez que se guarda un registro distinto, con el objeto de mantener el historial del acta.

From the same manual, the entry for the 'Acta' table that ActaLog is based on:

La tabla Acta contiene las actas de escrutinio para una mesa, un acta para cada elección (ElecActa) del día de la elección. La tabla contiene los resultados electorales por partido y los datos de fecha y autor de transmisión, verificación y aprobación.

In other words, the Acta table holds the current state of each acta column (=tally sheet, divided by election - eg. 'the column for president on tally sheet #10001'), including its vote totals and the timestamps of various events in the TREP. Any time there was an update to a row in Acta, the updated row was appended to the ActaLog table. This makes ActaLog very useful, since it allows you to reconstruct the vote count process. But it has no instructions. It's not clear what column represents what, and how it all goes together. In a more normal context, one could get explanations from the developers and operators of the system. However, the context of the 2019 Bolivian General Election is extremely not-normal, so as an aid to researchers, I've written an instruction manual that will also serve as a basic procedural explanation of the 2019 TREP. I don't claim access to any non-public information except the data here. What I know is based on examination of that data, public reports (especially the report from NEOTEC, the contractor who developed and administered the TREP), and two pre-election TREP demonstrations (1, 2).
If you don't have the data, I posted it here. However, that file isn't the original one from the TSE. Back in mid-2020, I obtained the original and wanted to publish it, but it had people's names and other potentially sensitive information and I didn't want to cause anyone trouble, so I gave aliases to that data. Also, I added a short descriptive guide, sorted the rows by ActaLog time, and in general made it a bit friendlier to use. But otherwise the data is the same.
The TREP was a non-binding system for preliminary electoral results in which tally sheet data was remotely transmitted from polling places to a cloud-based computer system, after which the data entered a validation process and, in most cases, was published on Election Night. The TREP was a so-called 'rapid count' which had no legal force and whose value was strictly informative, but it played a critical role in setting public expectations about the later official result, a process which took more time because it was manual rather than electronic and thus required the physical transportation of tally sheets. The core users who carried out the TREP can be split into three groups:

1. RegistroUser / TransmisionUser: Over 7000 users present at polling places who waited for tally sheets to be filled out, then photographed and transcribed them using a specialized Android app developed by NEOTEC, sending this data to the TREP servers via the internet. In effectively all cases, the user who records the data (RegistroUser) is also the user who sends it (TransmisionUser).
2. VerificadorUser: About 350 users at the SERECI offices in La Paz who transcribed the tally sheet images sent by the TransmisionUsers. If their transcription matched the TransmisionUser's transcription (which they couldn't see), then the acta column was verified and thus included in the vote count. If not, the software indicated which vote totals didn't match and gave them a chance to redo them. If that failed, then the acta column entered a review process.
3. AprobadorUser: Four users at the SERECI offices in La Paz who operated a review process that handled cases where the two transcriptions didn't match. When they resolved one of these, the acta column was approved (=verified) and included in the vote count. These users needed to be OEP functionaries since they had the authority to unilaterally determine published vote totals for the acta columns they reviewed, which makes them different from the other users above, all of whom were short-term hires.

The basic elements of the process can be illustrated in a simple flowchart (link):
The red arrows aren't actual events. They represent the failure to advance the acta column past that point in the flowchart.
To match the data to the flowchart, the most important field is EstadoActa, which tells you what type of update was made to the Acta table. There are three possible values of EstadoActa: 'Registrada', 'Verificada', and 'Esperando aprobación', which map to the flowchart like this:

I'll illustrate the process with a few examples, narrowing my focus to the table identifier (NumMesa), EstadoActa, and the different vote totals. First, #10001's presidential column:
The rows are in chronological order. I'll explain how to process the timestamps later.
The first row shows a Data Transmission event (EstadoActa'Registrada') in which #10001's presidential column is sent to the TREP servers with the given transcription. After that, there's a Verification Success (EstadoActa'Verificada') event in which the image sent to the TREP servers was transcribed. This transcription matched the previous one, so the column was verified. There were 68140 acta columns in the entire election, and in 93% of cases the acta column was transmitted and verified on the first attempt like this.
Next, #76217's presidential column, which was transmitted, then had a failed verification that was later resolved in the review process (about 2% of acta columns in the election):

The first row shows a Data Transmission event (EstadoActa'Registrada') in which #76217's presidential column is sent to the TREP servers with the given transcription. After that, there's a Verification Fail event (EstadoActa'Esperando aprobación') in which the VerificadorUser transcribed the image on the TREP servers but this second transcription didn't match the first one, so the acta column entered the review process. Once in the review process, there's a Reviewer Approval event (EstadoActa'Verificada') that occurs as a result of an AprobadorUser who reviewed the image and then verified the acta column with the correct vote totals.
A curious detail about the above examples is that, in both cases, the final row has an EstadoActa value of 'Verificada' despite the fact that the flowchart events which generated these two updates are different: the first update comes from a Verification Success event and the second comes from a Review Approval event. This means that if you filter all the rows in the data in search of ones where EstadoActa'Verificada', you'll end up with a mix of Verification Success and Review Approval events, which becomes relevant later when dealing with the event-specific time stamps.
Now a few examples of columns that couldn't be verified. First, #24578's presidential column, which has a Verification Fail but no Review Approval (about 4% of acta columns):
The totals in the acta image aren't quite legible. In cases with legibility issues, usually it's the TransmisionUser who is correct, since they transcribed the acta in person, rather than from the illegible photo they took.
Next, #41387's presidential column, which was transmitted but no verification was attempted (0.1% of columns):
In this case, the acta column was transmitted after the TREP had ended. Also, 'evt_time' (=event time) isn't in the file. I'll explain it later.

The TransmisionUser sent a no-vote transmission at 6:07AM on Election Day in what I imagine was an accident while exploring the mobile app. (Note: It's possible to record or transmit data multiple times before the VerificadorUser's attempt, but once that attempt is made, it seems there's no chance to transmit data again.)
Lastly, an odd case: #81281's presidential column, where the transcriptions matched but, it seems, the TREP rejected the match because there were more votes than registered voters:

Naturally, I could go on and show a great variety of cases, but by now it should be fairly clear how the flowchart events are represented in the data. I've provided examples of all such events except for one: Data Recorded on Device, which has no EstadoActa value and doesn't correspond to any database update. That's because it occurs on the mobile devices, not on the server where the database is, so it doesn't generate an update to the server's database. More on that later.
The next step is to assign timestamps to events. The data has seven timestamps:

VerificadorDate	Server	Verification Success, Verification Fail	Time of the acta column's Verification Success or Verification Fail event. In other words, this is the time of the VerificadorUser's attempt to validate the acta column and is outcome-independent. Failed verifications set this value just as successful ones do.
AprobadorDate	Server	Reviewer Approval	Time of the acta column's Reviewer Approval event.

Match the event-specific timestamps to the diagram, preferring the 'Ult' (=latest) version of a event's timestamp to any 'Pri' (=first) version, and you've got the final flowchart:

Based on this chart, it's possible to assign timestamps to events. For the sake of clarity, I'll pretend that this is a Jupyter notebook and write a little code. First, I load the data:

Then I create a column named 'evt_time' (or any name you like) that will hold the appropriate timestamp value no matter the type of update, starting with 'Registrada' updates:

I filled blank values with UltRegistroDate because there are 15 edges cases where the right timestamp is UltRegistroDate, not UltTransmisionDate (which is blank). These cases, referred to as 'Actas Rezagadas' in the OAS report (p43), are instances in which acta column data was entered without the use of NEOTEC's mobile app, which occurred for 15 overseas actas.
Next are 'Esperando aprobación' updates, which have no edge cases:

Finally, there are 'Verificada' updates:

This requires a bit of explanation. Rows where EstadoActa'Verificada' correspond to both Verification Success and Review Approval events, but these use two different timestamps. If you used the VerificadorDate timestamp for all EstadoActa'Verificada' rows, you'd end up with cases of Review Approval events where you used the event timestamp from the Verification Fail that preceded it. To see this, consider the timestamps for updates on #76217's presidential column:
The correct timestamp for the last row is AprobadorDate, of course.
Naturally, you can't use AprobadorDate for all 'Verificada' rows either, since it will be blank for basic verifications that don't use the review process. An almost-correct approach is to use AprobadorDate for all EstadoActa'Verificada' rows, then fill blanks with VerificadorDate. However, this misses one edge case at the end of the TREP when a high-level SERECI manager used an admin tool to correct an acta column that had been approved with zero votes (#2433):
There's only one case like this.
The best approach, then, is the one I used earlier, which is to take the maximum of VerificadorDate and AprobadorDate for each row, which gets you the most recent of the two.
And that's it. Now there's a column with the right timestamp for each event. One alternative to all of the above would've been to use the Fecha Registro en Log timestamp for each one:

This happens to get the right value for 'Verificada' and 'Esperando aprobación' updates, but for 'Registrada' ones, Fecha Registro en Log will narrowly trail the UltTransmisionDate timestamp in a small number of cases, almost all of which show a difference of a mere second. Presumably if the timestamps were more granular, you would find more (small) differences like these. As is, Fecha Registro en Log almost works. (Note: Many of the largest delays occur right at 19:20 on Election Night, which is when a large amount of HTTP traffic from the public website was redirected to the server that housed the ActaLog table that's the source of this dataset.)
It's also possible to invent updates for Data Recorded on Device events, which are in the flowchart but don't have their own database update. To do so, you'd copy each transmission update (EstadoActa'Registrada'), then erase the transmission-specific values, set 'evt_time' and 'Fecha Registro en Log' to UltRegistroDate, then invent a new value of EstadoActa like 'Registrada en Movil' and set it for all these rows. This is bad idea, though, because as I've indicated, RegistroDate comes from the mobile device, not the server, and in many cases it is incorrect. The Android devices used to record and transmit data to the TREP belonged not to the electoral authority, but to transmission operators, whose employment was conditioned on being able to provide their own Android 4.0+ device. Some of the device times are known to the public, since a few were published in the EXIF metadata of acta images on the TREP website. (For example, #74747's metadata shows a timestamp from the day before the election.) However, most TREP images had no EXIF metadata because NEOTEC's mobile app would dump an acta image's pixel data into a bitmap object in order to compress the image and orient it horizontally, then exported the result, but this exported image only had the pixel data from the bitmap conversion. In some cases, the conversion failed (reportedly due to some mobile devices running out of memory), so the application simply used the original acta image, which had EXIF metadata but tended to be large in file size and improperly oriented. The RegistroDate timestamps in the data here provide you with the approximate device times you would've otherwise seen in the EXIF metadata. If you examine them, you'll find cases of data supposedly recorded years before the election and others of data recorded a month after it. These aren't real because the device times aren't reliable, but who knows what an unscrupulous political operator might say about them.

GENERAL FLOW CONCEPTS:
The flowchart illustrates the procedural stages of the vote count, but doesn't describe how data transitions from one stage to the next. At the transitions between stages, the result of the user's action is stored by a computer system in anticipation of the user from the next stage performing their own action to advance the acta column to the following stage. The rates at which users work and the order in which columns are selected from inter-process storage determines the speed and order of acta column movement through the TREP system. [zzz, rewrite.]
The system might be described as a series of transitions between stages. The first transition point is between the Physical Acta and Data Recorded on Device (when a RegistroUser photographs and transcribes the acta document). There's no data on when actas are filled out and the RegistroDate timestamps are unreliable, so you can't show the interaction between the two processes, but if you analyzed it, you might find, for example, that RegistroUsers assigned to many tables tended to respond slower to the filling out of acta documents, since they're more likely to be busy with other tables. Or, for example, when multiple acta documents available to be recorded, RegistroUsers might prefer ones from tables with identifiers close to the last one they recorded, since these tables would tend to be nearer to them physically. These are suppositions, though, and I only mention them to show how, all things equal, the work rate and selection process of users from the trailing stage will affect the speed and order in which data transits the system.
The next transition point is between Data Recorded on Device and Data Transmission. Again, it's not possible to do a reliable analysis because the RegistroDate timestamps are bad. The most obvious source of a delay between the two events is the absence of mobile internet in the polling place. In those cases, acta column data can be recorded but can't be sent, since there's no internet. The users in these polling places move from table to table collecting data, but can't transmit. To be able to transmit, they need to travel to an area with internet. In the case of someone who's, say, in a basement in a large city, all they need to do is step outside. However, in the case of someone in a rural area without internet, there's real travel involved. The OEP deployed a fleet of 600+ vehicles to ferry transmission operators from no-internet areas to areas with internet or, in some cases, the transmission operator traveled to one of 51 satellite posts. Since the mobile app transmitted all the data immediately upon entering a service area, users that recorded data when they didn't have internet service have extremely short inter-table transmission intervals, which differs from normal transmissions, in which tables were sent one-by-one as data was recorded.

She comes home to Romaine re-proposing with a necklace, and she says yes again. Adriana accepts Frederic's engagement, and they plan to get married next spring. Ana is going to actually sign her divorce papers after putting them off for so long. RHOA, S13E3, 2020 Porsha, out protesting in Kentucky, is arrested again, and she says it was definitely worse the second time and felt the cops were trying to prove a point by having her be one of the last to leave. Kenya and LaToya continue their flirtation/sexual tension, and Kenya mentions LaToya calling Drew's wig 'pet', and she just doubles down on the comment, as we see throughout this whole season. Cynthia tells Kandi and Kenya that even though it's in the pandemic, she is going to have a 250 person wedding, and they both are more worried about her having a prenup than hosting a superspreader event. Kandi has one of course, as she has never let even a nickel fall out of her wallet, but Kenya did not get one and regrets it completely. We later see Porsha telling Tanya and Lauren that she started quarantine off with Dennis like 'a honeymoon - fucking everywhere, cooking everything' and then it turning into 'divorce within five months.' She has a sense of humour about it, and she obviously has moved on since! Falynn hosts the women for a pool party and then has everyone put their mouth on a hookah hose, and I know they were tested all the time to hang out with one another and film, but damn, the idea of doing that now is SO weird. Cynthia and Mike Hill fight over the wedding date, as he wants to make it smaller and be married no matter what, and Cynthia wants to 'set the tone for their marriage' and have her lavish dream wedding. RHOP, S5E21, 2020 - REUNION PT. 2 Monique, in the last five minutes of the first part of the reunion, pulled out her binder full of receipts and indeed had Jamal's phone number. She starts this second part off by telling Gizelle '[her] past boyfriend is swinging his big D all around his congregation, even in Atlanta as we speak, and you know it.' Hilarious she also complimented him by calling his 'd' big. Gizelle says nothing, and Andy notes that it seems everyone thinks he's cheating on her. She says the show just magnifies them as a couple and she is 'fine.' Like every other woman in history, she did not mean it when she said she was fine! The attention is then turned to Ashley, who is pregnant during this reunion and Andy tells her he feels bad to bring her marriage up again during this time of her life and says he does this every year, lol! She tells everyone that he cheated, but she kissed a girl in front of him at a concert, so it's totally the same and now it's even. Andy then brings up the unshown/unearthed footage of Michael pinching a producer's butt in season one, and she said that the producer was flirtatious with Michael and he did it as a joke. And says he asked the producer and he said it was not consensual and he was very embarrassed by it. She replies that the producer calls him 'zaddy' so that's odd. She says if he cheats on her again, she will leave him. Monique says she was asked to drag Candiace by Candiace herself, so she did. Candiace says she is still very upset by the event, and the fact Monique let rumours go around that it was Candiace who started it in the blogs before the season aired, really really upset her. Last reunion next week! ​ DECEMBER 21ST RHOA, S7E7, 2014 Kenya meets with Roger Bobb (that is a made-up name if I've ever seen one) to talk about him helping her produce a piece of work she was doing. This is the show's way of introducing the new friend of the housewives, Demetria. She later heads to the Bailey Agency and tells Cynthia she's looking for someone for a music video. Demetria tells Cynthia that she has been dating Roger Bobb, always referred to by first and last name, ala Mike Hill, on and off for the last eight years, and Cynthia tells us she and Peter have known him longer than that and never knew of a girlfriend. Phaedra heads over to Kandi's, who has her cousin Melvin over to talk to Phaedra about Apollo going to jail. His father had/has been in and out of prison for most of Melvin's life, and talked about how that changed him while he was growing up. Phaedra doesn't know how to tell Ayden - Dylan is too young to understand dad is leaving - and she's scared to tell him Apollo is going to jail and let him think breaking the law is okay, and wants to keep them from repeating the same cycle as him. Melvin says to tell the truth because he resented being lied to about where his father was. Demetria has a music video release party, and she can't even get the video to play so it was all for nothing, except she and Kenya talking about how there is no Roger Bobb needs, so that's good I guess. Apollo shows up at the party, unbeknownst to Phaedra, and he tries to force her into having a conversation about them, and when she doesn't want to talk, he tries to make out with her so she can't get away and cause a scene. Kandi knows and lets Kenya know not to be late, and when Kenya comes in she tells Cynthia she thinks she might be getting engaged tonight! Kandi is rightfully pissed as she doesn't want it ruined, and takes Kenya aside to slap her upside the head for this nonsense. Just kidding - she serves her a nice talking to and tells her to get her head in check. The next day, Kenya invites Kandi, Todd, Cynthia and Mike out for a triple date with her and Marc. On the way there, Marc and Kenya fight about how fast she drives, even though she is not the one driving. Porsha ends up telling Nene about her pregnancy, while all the women speculate she is due to her not drinking, her gaining weight, and her desire for pickles from the corner store. She brings the bottle to the restaurant though and pulls it out to give a toast, that seems to get the women off her track, and their talking heads tell us so! Before getting into what projects miHoYo will produce in the future, I want to address some community sentiments around certain topics, with the last two topics really showing what miHoYo's trying to do.
Content Creators
I'm going to keep this short, simple and sort of sweet.
The vast majority of content creators that either consistently play HI3 or have tried HI3 are fine. I'd say there are many consistently playing HI3 content creators that are great.
There are/have been some content creators that I'll only describe with one word. (Big) Yikes.
Support for more platforms
I've seen this come up often about how miHoYo should give HI3 PS4/PS5 support or even Nintendo Switch support.
...
It's not happening.
Adding support for PS4/PS5/Switch makes no financial sense whatsoever.
HI3 is a 5-6 year old game. How many new players are there, and more importantly how many new players stick to the game and spend money on it? Making a PS4/PS5/Switch version isn't financially sound.
Putting HI3 on Steam was probably really easy. They didn't need to develop anything new. They probably had to set up some new Global Steam servers and make some changes in the backend to handle these accounts, but nothing took major amounts of money or time.
If miHoYo were to make a PS4/PS5/Switch version for HI3, then they'd have to deal with Sony and Nintendo for whatever agreements and I've read that dealing with Sony for cross play isn't that great of a process. And you're not going to get HI3 on Xbox due to miHoYo's relationship with Sony.
Then there's development cost. HI3 is probably using some really old code with a bunch of spaghetti and porting will not be an easy task. GI was made almost entirely from the ground up for PS5. We haven't even received a Switch version for GI yet so what makes anyone think we'll get one for HI3? PS4 was already outdated and underpowered in terms of its CPU/GPU and storage when it was released (praise the game developers that needed to optimize for this console). There's already a new console in its place for a while now. Why waste time and resources porting HI3 over to PS4/PS5/Switch?

People need to realize that just because some games share similarities and in some cases share many similarities, doesn't make one game a clone of another.
There's also a fine line between inspiration and copying.
For example in the gacha space, Punishing: Gray Raven (PGR) to HI3 and Blue Archive (BA) to Princess Connect! Re:Dive (PCRD, also goes by Priconne). It's very apparent that PGR and BA took/copied many key/base systems from HI3 and PCRD respectively and implemented them as their key/base systems. So is PGR a clone of HI3 and is BA a clone of PCRD? No. Both PGR and BA have differences that change how they're played compared to HI3 and PCRD respectively. For example for PGR there's the orb system for combat and for BA the gameplay/combat is noticeably different.
If someone asks me if PGR is a clone of HI3 and/or if BA is a clone of PCRD, my answer would be 'No, but both games took/copied many key/base systems from HI3 and PCRD respectively'.
Games share similarities, but if a game has some major unique aspect(s) to them, how can you call it a clone?
Another angle to this is when one product is released, and a little while later another product is released and both products share the same concept. Then people go 'wow product two copied product one'. This is generally an awful take. Just because one product is released after another similar product doesn't mean the later product copied the earlier one.
For example:

• Person/Company A thinks of and decides to make an anime-styled open world game that uses a free-to-play model on date A.
• Person/Company B thinks of and decide to make an anime-styled open world game that's uses a free-to-play model on date B.
• Date B is earlier than Date A.
• Person/Company B's game takes more development time and money than Person/Company A's game.
• Naturally Person/Company B's game will be released later than Person/Company A's game.
• Person/Company A's game is released on date C.
• Person/Company B's game is released on date D.
• Date D is later than date C.
• People call person/company B's game a copy of person/company A's game, even though person/company B thought of the idea and executed their idea earlier than person/company A did.

Many companies saw Breath of the Wild (BotW) and probably thought they could make a successful game that share key BotW elements. Crimson Desert by Pearl Abyss is also an open world game that seems to implement some key BotW elements, but if you've seen videos of the game you'd realize that it's probably going to take a lot of time to develop. Or in the case of Riot Games where they take existing games and make similar games that are more appealing to a wider audience e.g. Dota > League of Legends, Dota Auto Chess > Teamfight Tactics, Hearthstone/Magic the Gathering > Legends of Runeterra, and CS:GO > Valorant. Many companies will take note of GI (and HI3 to a slightly lesser degree) and will do the same.
This applies to a wide range of different scenarios, especially in the YouTube space in terms of video ideas.
Then there's always corporate espionage in the mix.
At the end of the day there is a severe lack of 'original' ideas and until some person comes up with something brand new and/or revolutionary or until technology progresses to a point where certain unfeasible ideas become feasible, we're just going to get the same old same old.
Asset stealing
There have been many instances of stolen assets from miHoYo over the years.
For HI3, I remember one game that ripped off HI3's UI and stole HI3's music:

The Game Awards 2021
This is me ranting again.
I went in depth about this in my previous post, so if you want a more 2020-esque rant about this, please do read my previous post.
I don't put value in awards in the entertainment industry. I don't watch game events. I don't have interest in them. The reason why I was watching The Game Awards 2020 (and now 2021) was because I wanted to see GI win in the mobile category. They got robbed of it.
In 2020:

• GI won Best Game of 2020 on the Play Store:

• GI won the 2021 Apple Design Awards in the Visuals and Graphics category:
• GI won the Best Mobile Game award for the best games of 2020 at GDC 2021:
• GI won the Award for excellence alongside 9 other games at TGS 2021 (this award isn't that prestigious in the TGS):
• GI won the 'PlayStation®Partner Awards 2021 GRAND AWARD' and 'PlayStation Game Music Award (1st Runner-Up)' (to be honest though I don't think these awards mean that much)

For the 'Best Mobile Game' award, year doesn't matter and games as a service are eligible.
The nominees for 'Best Mobile Game' at The Game Awards 2021 are:

Censorship
And now the most controversial topic. Censorship.
I've been playing HI3 since it was released for global back on March 28, 2018. If you've played HI3 back then up until the Reburn event, you'd remember that HI3 at that time was sorta... There are still remnants of that time today, with the most prominent and immediate example being the Hannah stigmata set (the art's been changed for CN).
You've had controversies that have affected the game, such as the removal of touch interactions or that whole Herrscher of the Void summer outfit fiasco or the 'supposed' reason for the Honkai Impact 3rd 3rd Anniversary for Global outrage (I've explained this in my previous post).
I'm not going to discuss in this post whether or not miHoYo's censoring is 'right/good' or 'wrong/bad' because it's a whole can of worms consisting of many peoples' different opinions, regional differences, societal differences, differences in law and age ratings for countries, and so on. But I will go into what's happened and why.

With the release of v5.2 [Infinite Future], and the introduction of Chapter XXVI The Birth of Tragedy, we've received further censoring. Search online if you want to know what.
But this hasn't been the first time they've censored things. And they've been releasing things that arguably has no reason to be censored later down the road relative to HI3's age ratings.
There are multiple possible reasons why:

• The law
• Age rating
• Optics

In terms of the law, I'm mostly talking about the CCP. Censorship including anything to do with Chinese historical figures, effeminate men, etc., and specifically we've lost so many explicit Yuri/Girl's Love moments/scenes/etc..
As for the game's age rating, the lower the age rating the wider your potential userbase will be, which affects your bottom line. Maybe it's the case where they have to do these changes in order to not have the game's rating go up or encounter any issues of this sort.
And now what I think is the biggest reason why, optics.
So how does miHoYo look to the public? Well I can't possibly know unless a legitimate survey is done or someone compiles data from various forms of social media from various regions to get an answer.
But there are some factors we can take into account:

• A vast majority of people know miHoYo by GI
• A vast majority of people know miHoYo for GI's gacha

So for regions that aren't already acclimatized to gacha, I'd say the general opinion of miHoYo will be lower due to this. Another thing is that GI is generally rated for ages 12 and up. So you have a game that is available to children with its key system being predatory.
So how does this relate to HI3?
Well GI is huge. GI is popular. GI and by extension miHoYo are in the spotlight and are under scrutiny. And that scrutiny includes miHoYo's other games.
GI is popular, so naturally people will look into miHoYo and will learn of HI3. This is also fueled by social media e.g. by content creators or even by app stores when you click the publisher. So now people know know that miHoYo, the creator of GI that's rated for ages 12 and up also created and is still updating HI3, another game that's rated for ages 12 and up.
You see where I'm going with this?
Let's pay homage to one of Ai-chan's classic lines that's been in the game since it's released (I know for global at least):

This line use to be pretty accessible, but over time it's now buried underneath layers of UI and it's still shown at random. If you're a new player, you're probably never going to see this.
But let's actually analyze this line... It's a lie. It's false. Even though HI3 restricts your camera so you can't continue looking upwards past a certain point, you've always been able to see through various methods.
And with the introduction of the open world Koleston and manual jumping where any character they allow to be used needs a new jumping animation, it's a world of trouble (I know there are other forms of jumping e.g. jump 'pads', APHO etc. but I don't think the jump 'pads' in anything besides Koleston added any clothing animations. For APHO it's specifically Mei, and then there could be an argument about how she physically looks 'old').
This also leads me to HSR. I'm assuming HSR will also have it's age ratings be 12 and up. Characters in HSR can't jump. You'll also notice that in terms of appearance, certain areas of characters have a gradient to pitch black/darkness which to me looks very weird. They could have added some more clothing in those certain areas.
And this also leads me to GGZ. The SEA server and the US server stopped operating on October 11, 2021 making the game run for 7 years since their launch (then there was that weird situation where the servers came back for a couple days). I suspect GGZ was running at a loss for global so it makes sense for them to shut down GGZ operations for global. But I'll also say that I'm sure they could sustain GGZ for global with the money they make. And leads me to another reason. Optics. If you've played GGZ on global, you'll know that the game is really scuffed. A lot of things you associate with early era gacha games are in GGZ, including things you could consider as 'inappropriate'. So miHoYo decides to stop operations for global so people can't readily connect miHoYo to GGZ and GGZ's content. Why global instead of CN and JP? Well CN and JP still makes them money, and those regions are already accustomed to those sorts of aspects in games. I think SEA was just a victim in the process. Another thing to note is that miHoYo has always had two 'publishers' for their games in the west: miHoYo Co., Ltd. and miHoYo Limited. miHoYo Co., Ltd publishes FlyMe2theMoon, Zombiegal Kawaii and previously GGZ. miHoYo Limited publishes HI3 and everything else after it. They've had an artificial separation for their old games and new games since the beginning.

Ultimately for miHoYo's goals, this is a natural course of action they need to take. A prime example is Riot Games and all the censoring they've done over the years.
I will note that past v5.0 for HI3, they've been really going hard on more fanservice, which seemingly increases each patch.
Proxy publishing labels
Two weeks ago was looking through games on the Google Play Store. I saw GI and decided to click it, followed by clicking its publisher 'miHoYo Limited' to check out the ratings for miHoYo's other games. I was surprised that ToT wasn't in the list so I manually searched 'Tears of Themis' in the search bar and it came up as the first result. Surprisingly it's publisher was said to be 'COGNOSPHERE PTE. LTD.'. Naturally I went to the ToT subreddit to see if anyone else knew what was going on, and eventually I came across a post that explained things:

To me, HoYoverse sounds better. Cognosphere sounds like some AVR headset.
Which games are going to be published by which 'publisher' since there are three we know of now: miHoYo Co., Ltd, miHoYo Limited and COGNOSPHERE PTE. LTD.. Are all games/apps that currently exist going to migrate over to COGNOSPHERE PTE. LTD.? Are all games/apps going to be published under COGNOSPHERE PTE. LTD. in the future? We'll have to wait and see.
For CN, miHoYo's games/apps are published under 'miHoYo Games' in the App Store and TapTap under 'miHoYo':

You can search online for news articles on the topic (initially reported in February 2021), but it's clear that miHoYo has very ambitious goals.
miHoYo's inspiration
miHoYo's founders (including the current CEO) were huge fans of Evangelion, and it's pretty apparent that it left a strong and deep impression on them. FlyMe2TheMoon, ZK, GGZ and HI3 are clearly inspired by Evangelion.
GI is a culmination of many different games, with it's roots being Sakura Samasara. HSR is an extension to the Honkai universe.
Monetization was inspired by Puzzle & Dragons.
Global expansion
With the first report (that I found) back in August 2021 and then an official announcement later that miHoYo will be opening its first North American office/studio in Montréal, it's pretty clear that miHoYo is serious about making larger scale high quality games:

With these pieces of information, this brand new game sure sounds like what they described as Project X back in 2019. I'll dive into this later.

With all that said though, we just have to wait and see what happens in the future. Surely miHoYo will make more offices/studios around the world.
Technological advancement
Games and technology go hand in hand.
We went from (listing games off the top of my head, this isn't an accurate and/or exhaustive list of technologically revolutionary games) Pong to Pac-Man/Tetris to Mario/Pokemon/Final Fantasy to Unreal Tournament to Doom to Tomb Raider to Crysis to The Witcher to Cyberpunk 2077 to Battlefield 2042 and so on.
We have the likes of Starcraft/Dota 2/League of Legends/CS:GO and WoW, PUBG/Apex Legends and fighting games with all their net code jazz. We also have the likes of Minecraft and VAR games.
Then we have all the different pieces of consumer technology over the years including consoles and especially with the likes of CPUs and GPUs. We've had advancements in displays, etc..
We went from 2D black-and-white to 2D with colour to 3D. We went from no lighting to fake lighting to still fake lighting but more realistic in ray tracing. We've had fake physics for a while now with simulations for generally non-consumer hardware.
So what's next?
What I'm waiting for that I think will realistically come is real-time audio and real-time physics simulation in games. For example, sounds that actually reflect off objects like how ray tracing mimics light reflecting off surfaces. And simulating how particles work e.g. a piece of fabric touching an object won't clip but instead actually form to the object's shape.
We have cloud computing. We then have path tracing over ray tracing. We also have AI and machine learning in the mix. Quantum computing too. And ultimately AR and then VR will become a reality. Not the stuff you see today like VRChat, but what you see in The Matrix or Sword Art Online.
So will miHoYo give us a virtual world similar to The Matrix or Sword Art Online in 2030? I'm sure that's what people (i.e. me) dream of coming true, but if it's something akin to VRChat then hopefully it'd be great.
The future
Who knows what's going to happen in the future.
Who knows what will affect miHoYo seeing as how they are a Chinese company with the CCP looming over them with all these new laws and regulations. And with the CCP's recent actions against 10¢ suspending them from updating existing apps or launching new ones (miHoYo and 10¢ aren't really comparable)... miHoYo has always skirted the line of what's 'allowed'.
And with miHoYo's move to create a non-Chinese proxy publisher in COGNOSPHERE PTE. LTD., it's probably going to put them more in the CCP's line of sight, and not in a positive way. Maybe they'll have different content/versions for CN and the rest of the world in terms of new content? Maybe in the far off future they'll try to get out of China, but that's a enormous risk and enormous cost.
Then there's COVID-19 causing massive long lasting disturbances.
Who knows what will happen.
Games
In the previous post I made I listed out what games I thought miHoYo were most likely going to make in the near future.
It wasn't an exhaustive list, but I honestly didn't expect them to make a turn-based game in HSR.
So with that out of the way, let's go through what we know and my personal wish list.
Project X & Honkai Impact 4th: Galaxia

I've been waiting for Project X to release since it was announced back in December 17, 2019:
Project X: Project X is a new ray-traced action shooter from popular anime game developer Mihoyo, coming in mid-2021. The game features next-gen anime-style rendering and advanced interactive physics on a spherical open-world planet.

This will push me to buy a high end ray-tracing capable graphics card.
And it's about time cause right now it's summer 2021 (though COVID-19 will cause delay).
Looking at trademark history and the official release dates of their actual products, I'm pretty sure that Project X is Honkai Impact 4th: Galaxia.
I'm with really high confidence that we'd be travelling between different planets/galaxies.
It's described as an action shooter, so it could be anything ranging from people shooting weapons to ships shooting weapons to mechs to a battle royale etc..
I'm heavily leaning towards mHY using the same/similar engine/aesthetics as Lumi in their N0va Desktop application.
Will the implement the gacha mechanic or not or only have cosmetics in the form of gacha? Will it be multiplatform? Who knows.

This is what I wrote in my previous post. Well times have changed and new information has come to light.
I don't know Chinese and I don't know what sites and/or how to navigate the Chinese interwebs, so I'll be referencing the following site for trademark & patent filing dates (there are other sites like this for different countries):

So this is what I think and my thought process on the whole situation:

• Honkai Impact 3rd will have a sequel
• Honkai Impact 3rd's sequel will naturally be called Honkai Impact 4th
• Project X will be Honkai Impact 3rd's sequel
• miHoYo decides to make another game that's meant to be a 'continuation' of Honkai Impact 3rd and calls it Honkai Impact 4th: Galaxia
• miHoYo finalizes that Honkai Impact 3rd's sequel will indeed be called Honkai Impact 4th
• miHoYo realizes that having one game called Honkai Impact 4th and one game called Honkai Impact 4th: Galaxia will probably be confusing, so they decide to change the 'continuation' of Honkai Impact 3rd's name
• miHoYo changes Honkai Impact 4th: Galaxia's name to Honkai: Star Rail

The first thing to address is what is Project X. From the description of the game, I wholeheartedly believe that Project X is the sequel to HI3 and will be called Honkai Impact 4th (HI4). Even though with everything we know about HSR, with Welt most likely being the same Welt as HI3, Project X just sounds to me like what the true sequel to HI3 should be. Another reason to trademark HI4 early is so someone else doesn't (I don't know how trademarks/patents work).
So what is HSR then? HSR is a 'continuation' of HI3. You could say it's another story to be told after the events of HI3 (I include the entirely of APHO into HI3 because APHO is in the game HI3) that will help build the Honkai multiverse. And as I said before I consider HSR a spinoff to the Honkai series.
Another thing to think about is what has happened between their original announcement date for Project X back in 2019 and now with their job descriptions describing their next new AAA game:

• 'Project X is a new ray-traced action shooter from popular anime game developer Mihoyo, coming in mid-2021. The game features next-gen anime-style rendering and advanced interactive physics on a spherical open-world planet.'
• 'the Canada team will work closely with the global development team and focus on creating a brand new AAA open-world action-adventure game featuring shooting-based gameplay within a living, breathing paranormal world.'

Maybe there were delays because of e.g. COVID-19. Maybe there was a change of plans/vision. Maybe they have a more concreate idea of what type of game they want to make. I'm under the assumption that Project X and this new game are the same game.
Of course everything is speculation and my speculation is heavily influenced by my personal desire for HSR to not be the sequel to HI3. The more straightforward view is that HSR has been Honkai Impact 4th: Galaxia all along.
Battle royale
I want a new battle royale to get into.
There's Fortnite for PC, PS4/PS5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and mobile for Android and iOS. I have no interest in Fortnite.
Then there's PUBG and PUBG MOBILE. I've played PUBG for a bit but I'm not interested in playing it anymore. PUBG MOBILE is huge, but generally speaking I have no interest in playing a shooter using a touch screen, and I don't want to buy an expensive phone, and I don't want to buy new peripherals to connect to a phone, and I don't want to play a competitive mobile shooter using an emulator.
Then there's Apex Legends. I have no interest in Apex Legends.
From the sounds of whatever their next upcoming project is or whatever Project X is, it's described as a shooter. And generally speaking almost all battle royale games are shooters so... It's possible and/or there's a battle royale game mode.
A traditional AAA RPG
HI3 has been a testing ground for so many things. HI3 has experienced so many different game modes, so many different events, and so many changes over the years.
We've received APHO, then Alien Space and now APHO 2. Everything's pointing towards the eventual end of HI3 and onto miHoYo's next games.
APHO and APHO 2 sort of play like a traditional AAA RPG.
I want miHoYo to make a traditional (doesn't have to be traditional) AAA RPG for HI3 along with an anime. HI3 is really scuffed in so many ways, but even with all these grievances HI3 to me still executed a really great story with really great characters and I would love to see all this in a more polished, high production quality form.
Fighting game
Ever since their (I think) April Fool's fighting game video, I'd be interested to see them actually make one. I'm also assuming it'd be your traditional two dimensional fighting game. I also think a fighting game can easily implement a character switch mechanic.
Then there's the whole net code situation.
Rhythm game
miHoYo has a pretty large collection of music, though lacking in songs if they want to make a rhythm game with only their music. Maybe they can set up deals to use other music.
Card game
Collectable card games are essentially gacha games, so right up their alley 🙃.
Racing game
Very low probability. It'd probably be a game mode in a newer game.
MMO
With the advent of many anime-styled MMOs coming out e.g. Blue Protocol, Tower of Fantasy, etc., I still don't think miHoYo will make one, but I also didn't think they'd make a turn-based game... So maybe in the future they will? Maybe Project X will be?
Honestly though, I don't miHoYo will make a 'traditional' MMO. If they were to make an MMO I'd assume it'd be whatever their virtual world is, or an extension of it.
MOBA
I personally want miHoYo to make a MOBA.
I've been playing League of Legends since season one and I want a game to move on to. I've mostly lost all hope in Riot Games for the past couple years and I'm not interested in Dota 2.
MOBAs are very different from the sort of games miHoYo has been making and requires a different skill set than what I assume longer standing employees of miHoYo are qualified for.
Anime
In this day and age, shows are probably the form of entertainment that's the most easiest for people to get into and to consume.
So shows are arguably the best way to get people invested in a franchise. The most recent example being Arcane by Riot Games.
They did give us ELF Academy which was nice, but I'm sure that's not what people truly wanted.
I want a HI3 anime based off the main story of the game (honestly though give me an anime for every main story e.g. Second Eruption and every side story). I personally wish the anime would use a mix of 2D and 3D, or just 3D. Maybe even an animated movie series.
Though I will say that playing a game versus watching a show of the game's story is a really different and less immersive experience. You won't experience e.g. major fights, the door, etc..
Other projects
They already have manga, they already have a various amount of official merchandise e.g. CDs, posters, figurines, artbooks, clothing, etc.. They have partnerships with other companies for special merchandise e.g. Razer, Oppo, etc.. I think they already have their whole cloud gaming service in the works. They also have that whole charity program in China.
What else can they do? Maybe miHoYo can give us standalone offline versions of their previous games including HI3 🙏? Maybe they can give us a unified launcher (and friend's list) for all their programs called 'miHoYo Launcher' or something 🙏? Hardware for AVR? Physical miHoYo stores? More partnerships? More programs? Open up a school?
miHoYo is my last hope in this world to provide what I want in games (I'm not exaggerating). High quality accessible anime-styled technology driven games. The cherry on top is that miHoYo isn't a publicly traded company.
As I've said and explained in my previous post, I love technology. And in the case of games, I highly value technological advancement and innovation. In the world of technology, companies have to innovate in order to stay afloat. This isn't the case with games. Games in general don't require gameplay or technological innovation to be good and competitive. But that doesn't drive the industry forward and I don't put much value doing the same thing over and over again.
As for gacha games, gacha games make a boatload of money for generally speaking low cost. And specifically for miHoYo, I see where money's going. I know enough about where money's going according to publicly available information. Money is going to make and maintain high production value games and to expand and create more high production value projects. I honestly can't say this about almost any other company that produces and/or publishes gacha games as of this moment (besides SHIFT UP (I want to throw in Pearl Abyss here), and possibly Cygames and Hypergryph). All you see are these companies continuing to produce low production value products and/or content, make boat loads of money, and just do nothing with that money in terms of investing it into making their products bettehigher production quality.
Then there's the whole 'gacha games are predatory' angle. Yes, gacha games are predatory by nature. But I don't have a problem with the gacha system and have reason why, but I'm not going to delve into it in this post. For me, gacha was miHoYo's first successful monetization method. They've implemented and refined/altered their gacha systems over the years. Gacha is miHoYo's way to earn a lot of money over time, and miHoYo needs that money to fund their very ambitious and high cost projects.
At the end of the day, who do I want to hope for, believe in and support? A company created and ran by self-described and very open 'tech' otaku, or *insert typical person that's main/sole background is some business degree, typically in management or even worse, marketing*.

I opened a Roth IRA after my 2020 year-end bonus at work.

Income Progression: I've been at my position for about 2.5 years now, my starting salary was $70k.
In early 2019, I decided to pivot my then-aimless future toward something else. I had had no particular direction in transitioning to adulthood, no sense of what I wanted to do with my life, no career goals other than making enough money to be happy and independent; in college I studied what I found interesting enough to pursue but didn't really want to take it further in grad school just for lack of anything else to do. After spending my post-college years working retail, part-time administrative positions, and ultimately as a bookkeeper, I wound up learning about coding bootcamps and chased down a couple leads until I found a tuition-free non-profit program that accepted me, trained me, and provided me with resources to prepare me for a transition from a life financially struggling to one with my feet under me, In August 2019 I started my first full-time, salaried position, with benefits. Since then, the only raises I've received have been my company's standard annual COL raise, so my precise salary is, bizarrely, $74,263.
Main Job Monthly Take Home: $3720

• Tax/etc withholdings: $1552
• Medical/Dental: $283
• Medical FSA: $200
• 401(k) Contribution: $433 - I recently raised this number to 7% of my salary, my company matches to about 4%.

Context

Was there an expectation for you to attend higher education? Did you participate in any form of higher education? If yes, how did you pay for it? Absolutely; though I was the first in my immediate family to complete a 4-year college degree, the importance of college had been impressed upon me my whole life by both my schools and my mother wanting the best for me. I also like learning, but had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I deferred enrollment for a year to deal with a severe depressive episode, and graduated with honors and 2 majors.
I attended a small private liberal arts college, so it was pricey, but they gave me a significant merit scholarship ($25k/yr). The rest was covered by Pell grants, additional grants from my college^*, and ultimately federal student loans. Also, shortly before my HS graduation, a dear friend of my mother's passed away and we learned that I was the beneficiary for her retirement account, so that was hugely helpful in filling in the cracks between forms of financial aid. I'm assuming my mom also had some kind of college savings account for me, but to be honest I do not know the details of this at all.
^*My mom and I pointed out to them that by increasing full-tuition scholarships with each year's tuition increase but NOT doing the same for partial scholarships such as mine, it sent the message that I became comparatively less valuable to them the longer I attended.
Growing up, what kind of conversations did you have about money? Did your parent/guardian(s) educate you about finances? Very very few conversations at all, mostly just my mom explaining from time to time that we couldn't afford (insert X object/experience here). Any other money conversations were kept extremely vague because they tended to be about my father's inability/reluctance/legal mandate to pay child support (which was conveyed to me as being very little) and my mom didn't want me knowing the details, lest that poison my relationship with him.
Did you worry about money growing up? Personally, not particularly, although I was aware that money was tight. I knew there were months my mom had to choose between paying our rent on time or paying other bills on time. I knew there were experiences we couldn't have because we couldn't afford them. I was fortunate enough though to never feel unstable, I always had enough to eat, and my mom absolutely worked her ass off to make sure I could attend my beloved summer camp almost every year. I knew we didn't have as much as my friends, but I guess that didn't bother me too much. I sometimes was aware of big-ticket things I didn't have access to because of money, like braces or tutoring for the SHSAT (Specialized High School Admissions Test here in the city, for the really top-tier public high schools).
Do you worry about money now? Not really, fortunately, not anymore. After my career change I finally have a job that actually comfortably supports me. When I got that job, I wanted to be sure I could control my finances. Growing up aware of financial pressure, seeing my mother struggle to stay on top of our fiscal needs, and feeling completely broke for the entirety of my early twenties, I became a budgeting fiend (woo, YNAB!) when I began receiving a decent salary, wanting to be sure I was being responsible with it. I probably micromanage it too much, but it gives me a feeling of control. Even the (distant) prospect of retirement now seems achievable. Most of my stress now comes from wanting to do the best for my mom, who's still working in her 70s.
At what age did you become financially responsible for yourself and do you have a financial safety net? Having struggled with my career in my early 20s, I didn't move out of my mom's apartment for good until 27. That's when I moved out and took over the larger life items she'd been covering for me (insurance, big purchases, etc.). I don't really have much of a safety net because my mom still struggles a bit more than I do and my boyfriend is very recently not-dirt-broke, but I have trusted people in my life that would likely try their hardest to help me out if I were really in dire straits. Mostly I've had to build my own net.
Do you or have you ever received passive or inherited income? If yes, please explain. Throughout college, I would withdraw from the inherited retirement account periodically to keep myself afloat and entertained. Nothing especially extravagant, but enough each semester to feel like I could have a life and pursue a hobby.

My boyfriend (G) decided it'd be fun to be a bad influence and keep me up late hanging out and rewatching Ted Lasso (I bought a new iPhone in October and we're utilizing the free Apple TV trial - this show is so good, it's immediately become my comfort show), including a 1 am snack run to the corner store. We're both night owls, but tragically I do have a job that approximates 9-5 hours, so I often pay for my late nights. I wake up shortly before my morning meeting begins (WFH life and no video calls, bless), traipse to the living room where my desk is, and it's my week to give my team's input to the company at large.
9:30 am - Do a bit more work before breaking to pour myself a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios and grabbing the Starbucks Doubleshot Energy drink I had my boyfriend buy for me during the snack run, foreseeing my sleepy fate. Usually we/I make a pot of coffee for us, but sometimes I remain flummoxed by the fact that the effort part has to come before the zoom juice consumption part can. It just seems so backwards.
12 pm - Uneventful morning, although my work did announce that I and the other fully-remote employees will be brought up to the office (out of state) for our end-of-year holiday party next week. My company closes at the end of the year for the holiday season and holds an EOY meeting to wrap it up before heading into the festivities. I'm excited to go in person! (Everyone's vaccinated and it's a very small company.) I worked full-time from the office during the first few months of my career before returning home shortly before the pandemic. I also recently referred my BFF (L) for a position with me at my company, which she obtained last month (we women in tech have to look out for each other!), so this party will be her first opportunity to meet everyone and I'm super excited for her.
3 pm - G receives a Godiva advent calendar every year, and as this is our first year living together, I get to benefit from it as well! Today the chocolate is mint and dark, he takes a bite and then passes me the other half to finish, yum. Then, having taken care of his important business for the day (it's his day off), he continues the work of adding a shelf to the kitchen counter extension he built for me earlier this year (small NYC kitchens left us no space for appliances), and I am grateful to not have any more meetings today because he's using his power sander I got from our local Buy Nothing group.
6 pm - I had my phone therapy session, for which I'll request an invoice in a few weeks (I usually do it a month at a time), and rush to dress and head out to catch the bus for my weekly ladies' night with some of my local friends. It's always very chill, just gathering at someone's house and eating food and chatting.
8 pm - We ordered pizza and split a couple bottles of wine that my friend already had on hand; the order issues a Venmo request ($14.60). We watched an episode of School of Chocolate on Netflix and were awed by some of the things people can do with chocolate!
11 pm - I get home (absolutely blessed by the transit synchronization gods today, my transfers were flawlessly timed), pick up a package of a Black Friday nail polish order that's been delivered, watch a great YouTube series with my boyfriend, and am struck by a craving for hot cocoa, which my boyfriend delightfully obliges by preparing for me from scratch, complete with homemade whipped cream, which promptly melts back into cream when he puts it on the hot chocolate. Not that I'm complaining.
1:30 am - We finish watching a couple more episodes of Ted Lasso before it's suddenly very late and I insist on going to sleep.

Day 2:Thursday
9 am - Another sleepy morning. Yes, I know I stay up too late. That's what my caffeine addiction is for! I give the morning meeting input as G gets ready to head off to work, and then I make a fresh pot of coffee. The last of the milk was used last night for the hot chocolate, so I spoon a small amount of vanilla ice cream into my coffee and am contemplating what to do for breakfast in lieu of cereal when I remember that I came home from girls' night with a leftover pumpkin maple chocolate chip muffin! Not nutritious, but definitely delicious.
9:30 am - I notice that my October therapy reimbursement has just come through, so I get to budget that repayment towards categories that need it. After buying myself a fancy new laptop last month, my budget's still a little tight (I'd saved up for a long time, but inevitably I always forget about tax on big-ticket items) so this reimbursement feels good. There's often such a long turnaround between payment and reimbursement that it just feels like bonus money. A good chunk of it goes to my gifts category (gotta get Christmas sorted ASAP!), a good chunk goes to savings, and the last $50 I decide to throw into my IRA. If I can add $300 to it this month I reach my annual goal to get to the popular-wisdom sweet spot of saving 15% of my salary toward retirement. - $50
2 pm - I'm desperately willing it to be Friday, but the day persists in being Thursday. I have the year's equivalent of senioritis; with the holiday closure coming up I simply cannot wait. I do like my job, but it's been a challenging year with the departure of my mentosupervisor meaning that my job duties have rather significantly shifted into an area I'm much less confident in. I get distracted pricing bookshelves online. I've agreed to host some family for a post-holiday dinner just after the new year, so the pressure's on to make sure my apartment's in tip-top shape before then. G and I, despite being in our late 20s, are putting a household together for the first time. Before this year we didn't own any living room furniture at all, and seem to have few personal standards without the pressure of a show to put on for our guests. We want to match the bookshelf he inherited from a former roommate, and it's cheap enough but my god Ikea shipping is expensive. I consider reaching out to a neighborhood friend with a car to see if he'll help us out.
3:30 pm - I take another short break to do some dishes while listening to an audiobook. Somehow it feels like the kitchen is always a mess. Next apartment I want a dishwasher, I swear. I pour myself a coffee refill and step back to my desk to see what I can finish before winding down my work day.
5:30 pm - I call it a workday and try to plan my evening. I have a phone date with a friend across the country later but I want to just quietly lounge and read and watch TV.
6 pm - I unroll the new extra-thick yoga mat I purchased over the weekend to try to make home workouts less miserable on our hardwood floors and jump back into my 30-day workout challenge. I've tried off-and-on to stick to a routine over the last year and a half, to no avail. I haven't totally messed this one up yet, apart from skipping one day earlier this week (I figured some -ahem- enthusiastic activities with G could suffice instead). But after a year+ of extra-sedentary living, on top of becoming a very stereotypical pandemic baker, I have outgrown much of my wardrobe and am anxious to have it fit again.
7 pm - I wrap up some clothes washing in the bathroom sink and make myself a bowl of pasta. I can hardly stand cooking, honestly, I wish I didn't. I regard it as the only chore that makes more chores. G has convinced me to slightly spice up my routine by not going for the barest minimum, so I jazz up my pasta with some garlic and spices. I can manage that. I relax, watch some Criminal Minds on Netflix, and do another small round of dishes before my phone call.
9:30 pm - It's nice to catch up with my friend. We wind up lapsing too long between calls, and then we stay on the phone for hours when we do manage to reach each other. While we chat, I remove my old nail polish and then decide to bake some chocolate chip cookies. Now that I've cleaned up my kitchen, why not mess it up again, eh?
11:30 pm - We wrap up the call as G arrives home, having ordered us some halal food. He tends to be the one to pay for delivery, and I tend to be the one to pay for groceries. Although I already had dinner, I got a chicken over rice platter with the intent to save the bulk of it for lunch tomorrow. We talk about each other's days and then put on an episode of Great British Bake-Off's holiday show while we relax and eat. The cookies, while good, are not my finest crack at this recipe, how frustrating. I wonder why and chalk it up to perhaps being a bit distracted while I was on the phone.
12:30 am - Trying to not be as tired tomorrow as I have been the past few days, I prepare to head bedward, setting myself up once again to do many dishes tomorrow.
1:45 am - Instead of sleeping, I read for a while because I am - and this is true - an absolute idiot.

Day 3:Friday
8:45 am - Rejoice, for it is Friday at last. G and I are woken up a bit early by him receiving a phone call. I've been pinged to do something in a channel at work, make a note of it, and then continue to snooze until the last minute.
9 am - Back up and at work. I decide to have a comfy work morning and set myself up with my laptop on the couch. I deliver my team input and check on the service I need to solve the issue I've been trying to work on. Still down. I'm an adult and no one's around to tell me not to have a cookie for breakfast, so I do.
11:30 am - I have somehow not had coffee until now. I finally get up and pour myself a cup from yesterday's pot. Except we're still out of milk and now that the coffee isn't hot it won't melt ice cream. A splash of regular cream it is then, just to lighten it.
12:30 pm - I come across a video of an unaired Avatar the Last Airbender pilot episode and can't help but watch it. I absolutely love that show, so seeing an earlier draft of its development is cool. I break for lunch, squeezing in my daily exercises before reheating my leftover halal food. I also go into the bedroom to take my daily multivitamins and check if G's a person yet. He works hard at his job and I couldn't do it myself, but damn do I envy his days off. I reassure myself that soon I'll be on vacation.
6:30 pm - I finally finish with my quick workout at the gym and head home to shower before going out for the night. I price trees at some stands on my walk, but my goodness they're all so expensive this year. G and I are hoping to get a modestly sized one soon but hoping not to break the bank in doing so.
7:30 pm - I'm out of the shower and running so late to my friends' place. We're doing a watch party for The Princess Switch 3, but under the sole condition that everyone is drunk. This movie will be made most tolerable through alcohol and friendship. G and I watch a cooking video from a channel we like on YouTube while I give my hair the chance to dry a little, and then I get dressed and have to rush off - but not before taking a shot of bourbon. At this rate, I'll miss most of the pregaming.
8:30 pm - I'm finally at my friend's house, where she's made delicious penne alla vodka, and I'm sipping on leftover prosecco from another friend's birthday party last month.
1:30 am - After the movie, we watch a few more random things on Netflix, and at long last I split an Uber home with some local friends. I finished my night out with a few glasses of water but it's probably time for more before I call it a night. My friend sends me a Venmo request for the cab. - $15
3:15 am - After cuddling with G, watching a bunch of videos from a comedy web series, and drinking a quantity of water I optimistically deem 'enough', I already have a headache. I pop an Aleve and go to sleep.

12 pm - I wake up with only a slight headache. I think I might go back to sleep, but instead I scroll various social media and news on my phone.
2:45 pm - G and I realize we've neglected the advent calendar for a few days, and split three delicious chocolate morsels as I make myself a sandwich for breakfast: fried egg, pepper jack, and sriracha on a toasted English muffin. It's the last egg, so we really do need to go grocery shopping ASAP now. He sets the coffee maker to brew and does a small round of dishes while I eat (he's not much of a breakfast person).
3:45 pm - After helping G clean the kitchen (and putting things on our brand new storage shelf, yay!) I do some of my daily exercises.
5 pm - We head out to Brooklyn for dinner with a chunk of G's family.
8 pm - Dinner's a wrap. I had a delicious yuzu cocktail, a glass of wine, a few bites of various appetizers and a lobster roll, Connecticut-style (and learned that Connecticut-style was even a thing!). His father generously picks up the tab, and I feel a little bad for getting such an expensive item. Ah, well. On the walk to the train I'm incredibly thirsty so I stop at a deli and grab a bottle of water. $1
11:30 pm - We're home, relaxing, and playing a bunch of Pokémon. We polish off the last of the cookies I baked the other night, and then transition to watching Ted Lasso. G gives me a shoulder massage cuz I've got a terrible knot, and he teases me about getting new muscles from working out.
3:15 am - It's hard to stop watching Ted Lasso. We finally do, because G has work tomorrow, and I (just barely) coax him into doing the (marginally more) responsible thing. It's 4 am by the time I put down Pokémon and go to sleep, and his eyes still aren't closed yet. Poor guy's gonna be dead tomorrow at work.

12 pm - I wake up, but with nothing to do I alternately laze and snooze for a while.
2 pm - Okay, out of bed for real. In part spurred by checking on my Libby app for some eBook loans that are about to expire and finding that the Brooklyn Library (as a resident of NYC I have access to all three library systems in the boroughs) has suddenly deactivated my card! There's nothing for it but to trek to Brooklyn and get it sorted out at a physical library location, or I lose my loans and holds. How frustrating. Well, I guess this is what I'm doing with my day now, since I want this solved ASAP and library hours are limited.
2:45 pm - Before I leave I get en email that an insurance claim's finished processing, so I check my portal and find it's got to do with some annual check-ups I did last month. I total up all the bills and it slightly surpasses what I've stashed all year for doctor visit costs, so I quietly hope for a good year-end bonus at work and settle in for the wait for the bills to actually arrive. Sigh.
3 pm - Since I'll be running around for a while, I make a day of it. I get myself a large vanilla latte at Starbucks ($6.59) and an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese ($5.29). My local bagel place appears to have raised its prices, not thrilled about that, although I know it's been a tough year for local businesses.
4:30 pm - It was a 5-minute process to resolve the library card, and I'm good for another 3 years. I decide to take the bus back to my neighborhood to see more of the world above ground. I used to work in this neighborhood before college, so I marvel at how much has changed.
5:30 pm - On my way home, I stop at a discount store on a tip from a friend to buy some kind of lame seasonal attire for an ugly sweater party next week. I can't bring myself to spend the sufficient quantity of dollars on an actual ugly sweater, so I just pick up a t-shirt with a snowflake on it ($4.99). I scope out the wrapping paper, owning none, but find the selection disappointing and move on.
6 pm - I finally go grocery shopping. This is the first time since the earlier days of the pandemic that I'm seeing effects of supply shortages, particularly in the bread aisle. I guess I'll be back soon or try another store. - $55.10
6:30 pm - As nice as it was to be out and about, I'm delighted to be home and relaxing now. I listened to an audiobook as I ran my errands, so I settle on the couch to finish the chapter before playing Pokémon and watching Criminal Minds for a while.
8 pm - I make myself another pasta dish for dinner, this time with a little more effort. It's nice that I felt inspired enough to put more work in, but once again it's gone so fast I wonder what the point is.
11:30 pm - G calls me on his walk to the subway, we chat about our days, and I start cleaning up from dinner.
12:30 am - I finish cleaning and grab my laptop to try to work on some Christmas shopping, just as G gets home. I talk him out of talking me into watching Ted Lasso, and instead we watch a video on YouTube while he eats his dinner, and I head to bed.
3 am - Damn, I'm still awake. I got too into studying French and Japanese on Duolingo. I got a free year of Duolingo Plus membership for filling out a survey for them earlier in the fall.

8:55 am - It's hard to drag myself out of bed. I find my computer has restarted in the night, and as such I'm a minute late to the morning meeting as all my apps re-open.
10:30 am - The leftover coffee in the fridge isn't enough for me, nor is my bowl of cereal propping me upright; I decide that stepping away for a 20-minute nap is the more responsible option than practically falling asleep at my desk. I climb into bed next to my still-sleeping boyfriend and snooze for a few, hoping to feel restored or at least somewhat appeased.
11 am - I drag myself out of bed once more, this time feeling more motivated. Work's felt aimless last week between year-end senioritis and the annoying technical issue I've been having, so instead of bashing my head against that proverbial wall I throw myself into seeing if I can solve another issue we've been having. Video links aren't coming through in our help pages the way we'd expect. I begin to research why and clean up some old artifacts in our codebase.
12:30 pm - L, my coworkebestie, pings me with a question and I realize this is yet another day we haven't had our scheduled noon meeting on the project she's working on. I give her a call to walk her through the way to solve the question, and we talk for a long time about how to help her feel more supported on this project, since it's a new role and fully-remote and all. We set a meeting with our boss later in the afternoon.
2:45 pm - After getting off the call with L, I hop in the shower real quick to avoid a rush between the end of work and my plans later. I love the flexibility of working from home, but I do feel guilty sometimes. I may have napped and showered, but when compared against other breaks from my time in-office like lunch breaks and coffee runs (and wandering the large office complex for a vending machine), I feel justified. I have a snack of cheese and crackers.
3:30 pm - We get back on call with our boss and talk through some of L's questions. I hope she feels like she's gotten more to work with. Boss also gives us his card information so we can book our travel up to the office for the holiday party on Friday. We balk at the train ticket prices but remind ourselves that it's not our money. Plus, as we're friends, they're saving on hotel cost since we'll be sharing a room.
5 pm - I got off-goal at work because a dumb error is frustrating me. Enough to the point that I finally posted my first ever question on StackOverflow, the developer’s holy grail resource. Here’s hoping I get an answer someday and don’t join the ranks of unanswered posts like this.
5:30 pm - The day, once I ceased to be a zombie, flew by! I wind up working a little late to wrap up some brainstorming I promised I’d do before tomorrow morning. I get a breakthrough though at least! The path forward on that one issue is clear. I have many issues. This job appealed to me because I hate monotony and when in the interview everyone was described as wearing many hats, that sounded like an environment I could vibe with. And I do like it, it keeps it exciting, but it also means I often feel I’m spinning many plates at once and forget some of them sometimes. I pay my internet bill after being prompted by YNAB and send the Venmo request to G ($74.99 plus $37.49 from G) and browse Christmas gifts online again while doing my nails. I select a dark greenish gray and top it with shiny flakes of all colors. It's vaguely wintery.
6 pm - I'm so tempted to get G (and I) a Theragun; he's a paramedic so he's constantly lifting people for work and it wrecks his back. Me, I'm just bad at sitting. However, that surpasses my budget line for Christmas gifts just now... I already got him an expensive concert ticket for one of our favorite artists. I decide to go with another gift idea for now, a pair of slippers so that he can step out on to the balcony in the cold without stealing mine. It takes me forever to settle on a pair I think he'll like well enough. - $54.95
6:30 pm - I contemplate doing my dishes from the day but only get as far as unloading the dish rack before I realize I really ought to be heading out. 7:20 pm - I roll into trivia a bit early and find my friends at their table. This is the first week in a few where I haven't been in a rush, it's nice. I made some progress on my book during the commute.
9:30 pm - We win trivia by HALF A POINT. I don't think we've ever had such a close game! The last round began with a 5-way tie for first place, and we just edged it out. Trivia had a sponsor this week, so we won 4 $25 Amazon gift cards, but had to split our winnings 6 ways. One friend redeemed all the gift cards and sent us each gift cards for $16.66. I Venmo the friend who paid the dinner tab (I'd ordered a burger - $15.68) and my friend with an unlimited Metrocard swipes me onto the train to save myself a paid swipe, because she is a champion.
10:30 pm - I get home and finish what I started: I do dishes while singing to myself. Not bad to just jam out solo.
11:30 pm - I dive back into exercises. Yesterday was rest day, and that's often where I fall off. As I do bicep curls with a bottle of St. Germain as my weight, I consider for the zillionth time finally buying actual weights. Maybe with my year-end bonus, depending on its size.
12:30 am - I'm finishing my exercises and watching Criminal Minds when G comes home. He orders a deli sandwich and I pass on the offer but I steal some of his curly fries. We snuggle and watch an episode of Ted Lasso after I make sure he knows we're only doing one.
1:30 am - I'm in bed, ready to sleep, and realize that I still have to do 20 squats. I get out of bed to do them, then settle back in and pick up my book to relax again. The drama has struck, this plot is thick as hell! I picked it up on a whim but I'm enjoying it a surprising amount, having assumed it'd be a sort of stuffy English novel from the 1920s.
2:45 am - G is in a silly mood. He had caffeine too late cuz he was posted with free coffee and no impulse control. We watch a trailer for the upcoming Spider-Verse movie, and finally he gives in and lets me sleep and heads back out to the living room.

6:30 am - I'm awoken by someone on the street outside persistently leaning on their horn. Please, please, please, shut the ever-loving hell up.
9 am - 4 work days remain in the year, but who's counting (me, it's me, I'm obviously counting). I'm glad not to have much input in the meeting this week, I can just listen. We're preparing for a release of the penultimate software version of the year. I make a pot of coffee as they discuss. One of our bosses is at a conference and apparently very much impressing the folks there, which should spell good things for our company in the future. I have a comfy work-from couch morning after waking up chilly. I have a bowl of cereal and a cup of coffee from the fresh pot.
10:30 am - I'm working on setting up code/project architecture for the breakthrough I had at the end of the day yesterday. There are a lot of @channel pings in Slack for year-end wind-down tasks that don't actually pertain to me.
12:15 pm - I make it a goal to have our noon meeting, even if we're starting late. The boss thanks me for my initiative in reminding him, and we have a nice check-in meeting as a team.
1 pm - I've forgotten to eat, but my stomach's a little unhappy so I'm not hungry. I go into the bedroom to wake up G who's about to be late for lunch with his dad, and find the source of my chill this morning - the bedroom window is open, which we don't usually do. That explains why the horn was so loud. I see that my mom's tagged me in something on Facebook, recalling the time we visited Glasgow and rode the whole subway (it's a circle) just because we could. I very nearly studied abroad in Glasgow but didn't follow through and I may regret it forever. I poke around looking at it on Google Maps for a while, recalling the places we visited. In lieu of lunch I have the Blow-Pop G bought during last week's corner-store run, just to give taste buds something to occupy themselves.
3 pm - Been ramming my head against the wall for some of the same errors I’ve been having lately - what the hell is going on that I can’t connect to the very services I'm supposed to be fixing bugs ON. If I can’t look at the service, I can't look at the bug. UGH. Someone on another team sets me up with something I should be able to connect to. He also hops on a screen share with me to help find what my blocking problem’s been, and it’s solved, at long last. When we’re done, I make myself a cheese and cracker snack.
4:30 pm - Unblocked on that issue, I confirm that something I was worried about does work as I intended it to, and I check in another change to the other issue I’ve been trying to resolve. I suspected it’d be a quick line-change of code and I was right, super simple. I'm finally properly hungry so I make myself an egg sandwich on an English muffin. I use this food break to update my book log spreadsheet and add a new formula to assess how many books I read are fiction vs. non-fiction. I really enjoy data analysis, tbh. I also have a notification from YNAB that my HBO Max bill is being paid today. - $14.99
6 pm - G and I go on a walk to run errands and scope out the local tree stands for the best balance of cost vs distance to carry a tree. I buy fun wine for my friend group Secret Santa recipient (I hope? It's got an eccentric label... I tried!) ($24.36) and then we stop at a dollar store to buy some wrapping paper and ribbons ($5.44).
6:30 pm - We have a gentle battle with the wrapping paper tubes on the sidewalk, come across a small bookstore we browse in briefly, pick up some extra groceries for dinner tonight (G pays), and buy a small but decent Christmas tree, with stand. - $65
7:30 pm - We get home, stand up and water the tree, and watch an episode of a web series game show we like. I realize I ought to do laundry or I'll have nothing to pack for my trip to work, so I sort out some priority laundry and do two loads (that should indicate how much has built up).
8:45 pm - G begins to cook dinner as I flip my laundry. I help him extremely minimally with dinner, since a) he's the one with actual skills and b) I've got other tasks. He makes a DELICIOUS meal of chicken, mushrooms, peas, and gnocchi in a balsamic cream sauce. Yummmm.
9:15 pm - We sit down with an episode of Ted Lasso, but we're barely 5 minutes in when my friends start messaging the book club chat about our scheduled meeting. Oops! It totally slipped my mind once our evening got going. I hop on the video chat and my friends and I share our thoughts on the last book club book we read. My group has fairly middling opinions on this one; no one loved it, no one hated it.
10:15 pm - We call it a wrap on our meeting, the next up in our book club selection rotation chooses a horror novel, this should be interesting. This book club was just formed during the pandemic, so the only theme is our friendship. We have a lot of different tastes and reading experiences in our group, but it means we always try new things!
10:30 pm - Now that the tree has been watered and had a chance to settle its branches a bit, we begin decorating! All the decorations are G's, as mine are all still at my mom's apartment. We have some string lights and G's collection of beautiful ornaments from the Met museum. G and I have had a small battle about aesthetic trees (his taste) vs eclectic trees (my preference), but we'll find a compromise. I can't deny his ornaments are all gorgeous, and I want them on there, but I also want this cute lil reindeer delivering presents in a Santa costume.
11:30 pm - This is my first ever Christmas tree that's my own. It feels like a milestone. I'm really not a big fan of Christmas, honestly, but the one thing I like about the season is the pretty lights and the smell of pine. The warm glow from a decorated tree melts my grinchy heart. We settle back on the couch and watch another episode of Ted Lasso. God, this show is an absolute delight. The characters are rich and layered and witty and the relationships are heartwarming. I can't get enough of it. I also can't get enough of this black pepper cheddar cheese we're having with some crackers. Delicious.
12:30 am - Aware that the sink is full of dinner dishes and that I neglected my exercises, I decide to go to bed anyway. It's far too late to be responsible now. I scroll Reddit for bit and drop off to sleep.

Reflection

This week was a fairly light spend week on some of my regular expenditures, really. I don't usually have so many other people cover my food costs. I have been making a concerted effort to cut back on delivery, an effort that G is sometimes on board with. - 30/03/2003 - Family friend Bobye Holt, whose daughter Josh was courting at the time, testified that this was the date that Josh had confessed his actions to her, Jim Bob, Michelle and her husband, Jim Holt. This is when his courtship with their daughter ends.
- Josh is sent to a Christian reform program in Little Rock run by Harold Walker, it is not specifically a program designed to deal with sexual abusers and sexual deviancy, and uses physical labour as its methodology. Josh was at this program from 17/03/2003 until 17/07/2003.
- July 2003: According to Jim Bob Duggar’s statement to police, this is the first time that the family tells a law enforcement official about the incidents in their home. - 29/11/2021 - Evidentiary hearing held. Bobye Holt testified, revealing that Josh had spoken to her, and that his actions occurred over a span of years. Jim Bob ‘failed to recall’ many key details, except to minimise Josh’s actions. *Josh’s team argued that the information Josh revealed to Holt should not be allowed to be admitted to the court, due to the fact that Holt was acting in the position of a clergyman.*
- 30/11/2021 - Jury selection occurred, and list of potential witnesses was revealed, this included Jill, Jedidiah, Bobye Holt, Caleb Williams and Jim Holt. Jury was seated, but only after we found out that one of the possible jurors was a Duggar in-law.
- 01/12/2021 - Evidentiary Motions, Opening Statements and Prosecution Witnesses. Judge Brooks allowed Josh’s prior molestation to be admitted into court. The Defense’s main argument is that the forensic trail is faulty, law enforcement did a poor job following up on everything, and that Josh was too dumb to be able to work the computer. Detective Amber Kalmer was called to testify, she picked up on the peer-to-peer activity. Select images of the CSAM are shown to the jury, but not to the gallery. Special Agent Gerald Faulkner was called to testify, some of the audio recorded at the car lot was played, and evidence related to payroll and Josh’s previous use of Tor is presented. Austin, Derrick and Anna attended, although Anna left during the presentation of the CSAM.
- 02/12/2021 - Faulkner is cross examined and the prosecution calls three more witnesses. Faulkner is questioned by the Defense, regarding the items seized in the lot, the six month gap between discovery of downloads and the execution of the warrant. Attempted to pin it on Caleb Williams, but he was out of state and so the attempt was denied. Matthew Waller cross examined, regarding the password on the computer, but showed no real knowledge of the Intel1998 password. Jeff Wofford called and spoke about covenant eyes and the Linux partition. Jeffrey Pryor was called, he was present during the execution of the warrant at the car lot. Marshall Kennedy called to talk about how there was no CSAM on Josh’s phone and macbook. Fottrell called to go into specifics about CSAM. Anna, Austin and Joy, Justin, Hilary Spivey, and Derick attended court.
- 03/12/2021 - Testimony of James Fottrell continues into today, with him creating a clear timeline of CSAM and Josh’s online activity, linking him to the car lot. Defense attempts to discredit by questioning which devices were seized and why, but Fottrell holds his own. Jury are dismissed for weekend and will reconvene then. Joy, Austin, Derick, and Anna were present.
- 06/12/2021 - Clint Branham testifies that Josh was familiar with computers, and had asked him how to set up a Linux partition. Jim Holt testified that he was there for that conversation. Bobye Holt testified regarding the conversation she had with Josh about his molestation when was a teen. The prosecution rested after this. The Defense called Michelle Bush, a digital forensics expert, to testify about what was retrieved from the forensic exam of the devices. Most importantly, she contradicted the government’s testimony, saying that it was possible for the videos to have been played remotely. Anna, Derick, Austin, Joy, Jason, James, and Jessa were present.
- 07/12/2021 - Michele Bush was cross-examined by the prosecution, who highlighted her minimal experience in working with Linux cases, in response, Defense tried to push to remote access angle. Daniel Wilcox testifies, he is a former HSI member, Wilcox was an undercover officer to check that Pest was present at the car lot. The Defense rested. Fottrell is re-called, and shows how simple Linux is through demonstration, and to reaffirm that there is no evidence of remote access.

• Josh is then punished by having his head shaved, being forced to do manual labour and not being allowed to speak to anyone.

Jim Bob’s Political Career

• Jim Bob ran against incumbent Republican Tim Hutchinson for the Republican nomination for the US Senate in 2002. He lost.
• Jim Bob called for rape and incest to capitol crimes in his senate race.

• March of 2003 another incident occurs with Josh, this time with the victim being awake, who then runs and tells an adult about what has happened. Another incident in the laundry room happens around this time.
• After these incidents, Jim Bob meets with the elders of the church to discuss what should be done with Josh.
• 30/03/2003 - Family friend Bobye Holt, whose daughter Josh was courting at the time, testified that this was the date that Josh had confessed his actions to her, Jim Bob, Michelle and her husband, Jim Holt. This is when his courtship with their daughter ends.
• Josh is sent to a Christian reform program in Little Rock run by Harold Walker, it is not specifically a program designed to deal with sexual abusers and sexual deviancy, and uses physical labour as its methodology. Josh was at this program from 17/03/2003 until 17/07/2003.
• July 2003: According to Jim Bob Duggar’s statement to police, this is the first time that the family tells a law enforcement official about the incidents in their home. The 2006 report says that the discussion between a church elder, a person believed to be Josh Duggar, and Jim Bob Duggar was with a corporal in the Arkansas State Police, who gave the person “a very stern talk” about his actions. The matter went no further at this time, according to the report, and the corporal told the group who approached him that because they “had already put [redacted] through a treatment program, there was nothing else to do.”
• That officer, Joseph Truman Hutchens, is currently serving a 56-year prison sentence in an Arkansas Department of Correction facility for child pornography offenses. [washington post]

The Oprah Winfrey Show passes this along to local law enforcement. On the same day a hot line had been called after a family friend had written a letter regarding what had happened with Josh, and had then forgotten it in a library book which was then returned. The person who received the book read the letter, and then called the hotline.
• On 12/12/06, Jim Bob and Michelle are interviewed by the Children's Safety Center in Springdale Arkansas. This was in an anonymous tip received by their hot line in regard to the Duggar children’s safety. Jim Bob reveals the molestation that Josh had confessed about to them in 2002, both the incidents in March and July. Jim Bob says that Josh was punished after this. He reveals all the information previously listed.
• On 12/12/2006, Detectives Taylor and Hignite interviewed the victim(s).

• 30/11/2021 - Jury selection occurred, and list of potential witnesses was revealed, this included Jill, Jedidiah, Bobye Holt, Caleb Williams and Jim Holt. Jury was seated, but only after we found out that one of the possible jurors was a Duggar in-law.
• 01/12/2021 - Evidentiary Motions, Opening Statements and Prosecution Witnesses. Judge Brooks allowed Josh’s prior molestation to be admitted into court. The Defense’s main argument is that the forensic trail is faulty, law enforcement did a poor job following up on everything, and that Josh was too dumb to be able to work the computer. Detective Amber Kalmer was called to testify, she picked up on the peer-to-peer activity. Select images of the CSAM are shown to the jury, but not to the gallery. Special Agent Gerald Faulkner was called to testify, some of the audio recorded at the car lot was played, and evidence related to payroll and Josh’s previous use of Tor is presented. Austin, Derrick and Anna attended, although Anna left during the presentation of the CSAM.
• 02/12/2021 - Faulkner is cross examined and the prosecution calls three more witnesses. Faulkner is questioned by the Defense, regarding the items seized in the lot, the six month gap between discovery of downloads and the execution of the warrant. Attempted to pin it on Caleb Williams, but he was out of state and so the attempt was denied. Matthew Waller cross examined, regarding the password on the computer, but showed no real knowledge of the Intel1998 password. Jeff Wofford called and spoke about covenant eyes and the Linux partition. Jeffrey Pryor was called, he was present during the execution of the warrant at the car lot. Marshall Kennedy called to talk about how there was no CSAM on Josh’s phone and macbook. Fottrell called to go into specifics about CSAM. Anna, Austin and Joy, Justin, Hilary Spivey, and Derick attended court.
• 03/12/2021 - Testimony of James Fottrell continues into today, with him creating a clear timeline of CSAM and Josh’s online activity, linking him to the car lot. Defense attempts to discredit by questioning which devices were seized and why, but Fottrell holds his own. Jury are dismissed for weekend and will reconvene then. Joy, Austin, Derick, and Anna were present.
• 06/12/2021 - Clint Branham testifies that Josh was familiar with computers, and had asked him how to set up a Linux partition. Jim Holt testified that he was there for that conversation. Bobye Holt testified regarding the conversation she had with Josh about his molestation when was a teen. The prosecution rested after this. The Defense called Michelle Bush, a digital forensics expert, to testify about what was retrieved from the forensic exam of the devices. Most importantly, she contradicted the government’s testimony, saying that it was possible for the videos to have been played remotely. Anna, Derick, Austin, Joy, Jason, James, and Jessa were present.
• 07/12/2021 - Michele Bush was cross-examined by the prosecution, who highlighted her minimal experience in working with Linux cases, in response, Defense tried to push to remote access angle. Daniel Wilcox testifies, he is a former HSI member, Wilcox was an undercover officer to check that Pest was present at the car lot. The Defense rested. Fottrell is re-called, and shows how simple Linux is through demonstration, and to reaffirm that there is no evidence of remote access.

With so many games releasing nowadays, I think it's easy for the good ones to get lost in the shuffle. I'm going to list 60 upcoming local multiplayer games releasing in the future. This is just a tiny fraction of what’s on the horizon, as Steam alone received 10,263 games in 2020.I’m going to order the games by release date. If the game does not have a tangible release date, I’ll place it in the list based on what I think is more likely to come out first, based on marketing material and communication from the developers.
Note that the platforms listed are just what’s confirmed, and a platform not being listed doesn’t necessarily mean a game won’t come to said platform. Sometimes it is difficult to find information on what platforms a game will be on, and sometimes the developer doesn’t even know until later down the line. In a lot of cases, indie games will release on Steam first and then come to consoles later. For example, Trash Sailors released on Steam yesterday, but it won’t be on Switch until February 17, 2022.
